Frequently Asked Questions

What personal information does RideMate collect?+

We collect what you give us when you sign up: your name, email, and password. Optionally you can add a phone number, profile photo, motorcycle licence details, riding experience, bio, and your Australian state and postcode.

We also collect your device location (only if you grant permission), and basic usage info like which features you use and your app version.

Why do you need my location?+

Location lets us show you supervisors (or learners) who are near you. Without it, we can't do distance-based matching โ€” the core feature of the app.

Your precise GPS coordinates are never shown to other users. They only see a general proximity indicator (e.g. "10 km away"). You can revoke location permission at any time in your phone's Settings.

Who can see my profile information?+

Other RideMate users can see your: name, profile photo, state, licence type, bio, ratings, and reviews.

They cannot see your: email address, phone number, precise location, or chat messages with other users.

Do you sell my data?+

No. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party for profit or marketing โ€” ever.

RideMate earns revenue from users directly. Our business model has nothing to do with monetising your data.

Who do you share my data with?+

Only three parties ever receive your data:

1. Other RideMate users โ€” limited public profile info only (see above).

2. Supabase โ€” our cloud database and authentication provider, contractually bound to protect your data.

3. Authorities โ€” only if required by Australian law, a court order, or to protect someone's safety.

How is my data kept secure?+

We use industry-standard protections: all data travels over HTTPS/TLS encryption, passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text, row-level security means each user can only access their own records, and staff access to personal data is strictly limited.

How long do you keep my data?+

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal information within 30 days โ€” except where we are legally required to keep it.

Can I access or correct my information?+

Yes. Under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 you have the right to access the data we hold about you, request corrections, request complete deletion of your account and data, and opt out of email notifications at any time from your Profile settings.

How do I delete my account?+

In the app: go to Profile โ†’ Legal โ†’ Delete Account. Your data is permanently deleted within 30 days.

Alternatively, email privacy@ridemate.club and we'll handle it manually.

What age is RideMate for?+

RideMate is for users aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child's data has been collected, email privacy@ridemate.club and we'll delete it promptly.

How do I make a privacy complaint?+

Email privacy@ridemate.club โ€” we respond within 30 days.

If you're not satisfied, you can lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at www.oaic.gov.au.
