This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal information when you use the RideMate application ("App").

We collect information you provide directly, including:
Full name, email address, and password when you register
Phone number (optional)
Profile photo (optional)
Motorcycle licence type, class, and date obtained (optional)
Years of riding experience (optional)
Personal bio (optional)
Australian state and postal code
We also collect information automatically when you use the App:
Device location (when you grant permission) to show nearby supervisors
Device type, operating system, and app version
Usage data such as features accessed and interactions within the App
Messages exchanged with other users through in-app chat
Ratings and reviews you submit
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your personal information to:
Create and manage your account
Connect learners with supervisors based on location and preferences
Facilitate ride bookings and scheduling
Enable in-app messaging between users
Display your public profile to other users
Process and display ratings and reviews
Send push notifications about ride requests, messages, and updates
Investigate reports of misconduct or safety concerns
Improve the App and develop new features
Comply with legal obligations
3. Information Shared With Others
Other Users: Certain profile information is visible to other users, including your name, profile photo, state, licence type, bio, ratings, and reviews. Your precise location is not shared — only proximity indicators are shown.
Service Providers: We use Supabase (cloud database and authentication) to store and process your data securely. These providers are contractually required to protect your data.
Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or government authority.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes.
4. Location Data
RideMate requests access to your device's location to show you supervisors near you. Location data is:
Only collected when you have granted location permission
Stored on our servers to enable distance-based search
Not shared in precise form with other users
You may revoke location permission at any time through your device settings.
5. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including:
Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
Row-level security on all database records
Secure authentication with hashed password storage
Access controls limiting staff access to personal data
6. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymise your personal information within 30 days, except where required by law.
7. Children's Privacy
RideMate is not intended for use by persons under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16.
8. Your Rights and Choices
Under the Australian Privacy Act you have the right to:
Access the personal information we hold about you
Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information
Request deletion of your account and associated data
Opt out of marketing communications
Lodge a complaint with the OAIC
